MAPNA Group won the tender to rehabilitate 50 units of locomotives for Iran Railways Company on January 17, 2017.
The ROO (rehabilitate, own, operation) contract awarded by Iran Railways Company assigns MAPNA with rehabilitation, commissioning, maintenance, operation, and ownership of 50 units of Alstom locomotives for a five-year term.
The bid was lodged by a consortium comprised of parent company MAPNA Group and two railway subsidiaries, MAPNA Railway Maintenance and Operation Development Company (MRM) and MAPNA Locomotive Engineering and Manufacturing Company.
The locomotives will be rehabilitated and readied for operation in a five-year time span, and their ownership will be transferred to MAPNA after ten years of service. MAPNA Locomotive Engineering and Manufacturing Company will be in charge of the rehabilitation and commissioning process, while MAPNA Railway Maintenance and Operation Development Company (MRM) will be in charge of their operation and maintenance for fifteen years.
The project will eventually return 50 Alstom diesel-electric locomotives, each with a horsepower of 4000, to Iran’s traction fleet. The new successful tender is MAPNA’s latest initiative to expand its cargo operation business in Iran’s rail industry.
