History

Establishment of Mapna Group

MAPNA Group was established in August 1993, under the name “Iran Power Plant Projects Management Company.” Over the years, the company has made significant progress by expanding its business horizons beyond the management of power plant projects. In October 2013, it officially changed its name to MAPNA Group to reflect this development.
Initially, the group began its activities as a general contractor for power plant projects, working under turnkey schemes. Its primary focus was on the procurement of original equipment via international companies and execution of construction operations. Gradually, the company evolved from being a sole contractor in the 1990s to a licensed producer in the 2000s. And in the 2010s, it emerged as a technology owner and a leading name in the global gas turbine market. The company manufactures state-of-the-art turbines, in line with plans to make the power industry more efficient.
In the mid-2000s, MAPNA Group joined two strategic sectors: oil & gas and rail transportation. It relied on massive capabilities and managerial experience of the past decade to diversify its offerings. The group’s presence as a contractor in oil and gas projects, as well as the construction of advanced passenger locomotives in collaboration with recognized international brands, were among the most important measures taken by the group in these two areas. Today, MAPNA Group continues to innovate and expand, cementing its position as a leader in the industry.

MAPNA, a leading conglomerate in the energy and rail industries, has always been at the forefront of innovation and development. In the late 2000s, the company established its Research and Development (R&D) department to drive its technological advancements and maintain a competitive edge in the fast-paced market.

The company’s R&D team has been instrumental in delivering cutting-edge technology that forms the basis for MAPNA’s new products, services, and business models. The MGT-70 (3) gas turbine, which was developed in-house, is an excellent example of this innovative approach to R&D and modern technology.

With a focus on growth and expansion, MAPNA has made significant investments in the oil & gas and rail industries in recent years. In 2018, the company became one of the first Iranian contractors to qualify for oil exploration and development. It secured an agreement with the Oil Ministry to develop and operate Danan, Parsi, and Paranj oilfields in Iran’s Khuzestan Province.

In the rail transportation market, MAPNA has emerged as a key player. The company is now planning to expand its presence beyond the domestic market and venture into regional markets. This move is indicative of the high demand growth rate in Iran and underscores MAPNA’s commitment to driving industrial development in the country.

MAPNA’s long-term strategy is to broaden its product portfolio and supply chain across several fields, including health, information technology, water, electrification, petrochemicals, and oil & gas sectors. The company aims to contribute significantly to Iran’s industrial development and expand its brand globally, with a specific focus on the Middle East, West Asia, and North Africa. To achieve this vision, MAPNA intends to collaborate with both foreign and domestic knowledge-based firms.

The primary goal

In the mid-2000s, MAPNA Group strategically diversified its operations to include the oil & gas and rail transportation sectors. Leveraging on over a decade of extensive capabilities and managerial experience, the Group embarked on advanced passenger locomotive construction in partnership with esteemed global brands, and cemented its position as an accomplished contractor in major oil and gas projects.

As the market landscape became more dynamic and competitive, MAPNA recognized the need for technological innovation and established its Research and Development (R&D) department in the late 2000s. The R&D department was designed to be a catalytic force for innovation, generating critical technology that would fuel the development of new products, services, and business models.

MAPNA’s pioneering MGT-70 (3) gas turbine, which was born out of the R&D efforts, has been widely acknowledged for its exceptional quality. It is comparable to international models, and has marked a significant milestone in independent design and manufacture of gas turbines. This groundbreaking achievement has positioned MAPNA to play a pivotal role in the evolution of Iran’s power plant sector.

Entering new areas

In October 2013, the company took a significant step forward by changing its name to MAPNA Group. The move was aimed at reflecting the conglomerate’s burgeoning business horizons beyond power plant projects in the electrical industry.

During the 2010s, MAPNA Group experienced remarkable growth in the oil & gas and rail industries. In 2018, the conglomerate achieved a major milestone by securing an agreement with the Oil Ministry to develop and operate Danan, Parsi, and Paranj oilfields in Iran’s Khuzestan Province. This accomplishment made MAPNA the first Iranian contractor to qualify for oil exploration and development.

MAPNA’s entry into the rail transportation market has also been noteworthy. The conglomerate quickly emerged as a key player in the industry and is now focused on expanding its footprint to regional markets. The significant investments made in this sector are testament to the high rate of demand growth in Iran.

MAPNA’s long-term strategy is centered on diversifying its product portfolio and promoting its supply chain across a wide range of sectors, including health, information technology, water, electrification, petrochemicals, and oil & gas. These initiatives are aligned with the conglomerate’s goal of contributing to Iran’s industrial development. MAPNA Group also harbors ambitions of promoting its brand in international markets, such as the Middle East, West Asia, and North Africa, through collaborations with foreign and domestic knowledge-based firms.
