MAPNA Group Breaks Record in Power Plant Construction, Outperforms 160 Countries + Infographic

MAPNA Group has achieved a remarkable feat by constructing power plants with a total capacity of 50,000 megawatts, surpassing more than 160 countries in the world in terms of electricity production.

By the start of winter in 2023, MAPNA Group’s electricity generation capacity reached 50,220 megawatts, placing this conglomerate higher than countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Argentina, Norway, and others in the field of power plant construction.

MAPNA Group also accounts for about half of the country’s power grid capacity with this number of units that have been put into operation throughout its history in electricity production.

A quick glimpse of MAPNA’s achievements in the electricity sector

MAPNA Group has undertaken more than 150 domestic and international projects in the electricity sector since its establishment in the 1990s, which include 520 power plant units with a capacity of more than 66,000 megawatts.

Out of this amount, 50,220 megawatts consist of 36,355 megawatts of gas units, 1,950 megawatts of steam units, 11,374 megawatts of combined cycle units, 165 megawatts of wind and solar units, and 376 megawatts of medium, small and mobile units. The value of MAPNA’s completed projects in the electricity sector is 24 billion euros, and the value of MAPNA’s ongoing projects is about 8 billion euros.

MAPNA’s first and largest power projects

The first domestic unit launched by MAPNA Group was the combined cycle unit of Montazer Ghaem power plant in 2000. Also, Raysut gas power plant in Oman in the same year was the first foreign unit launched by MAPNA.

Damavand combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 3,000 megawatts (12 gas units and 6 combined cycle units) is MAPNA’s largest domestic power plant. Meanwhile, executing power plant projects with an aggregate capacity of more than 3,000 megawatts in Iraq are among the largest foreign projects of MAPNA Group in the power sector.

MAPNA Group has set many records during its three decades of activity in the country’s electricity sector. Some of the most notable ones are:

1.         Synchronizing power plants over three decades (27,900 megawatts in 177 power plant units were synchronized in the second decade)

2.         Producing power plant equipment with a capacity of more than 5,200 megawatts (2009-2010)

3.         Synchronizing two consecutive units of a project one day apart (gas units 1 and 2 of Parehsar power plant)

4.         Commissioning 4,200 megawatts of power plants (26 power plant units in 2010)

5.         Having the largest share of thermal units in Iran (98 percent in 2013)

6.         Commissioning 1,900 megawatts of power plants in one season (13 power plant units in summer 2022)

7.         Reducing the time interval from the start of installation to the synchronization of a large-scale gas unit to less than 4 months (Unit 3 of Semnan power plant in 2022)
