MAPNA Group has recently unveiled the latest iteration of its MGT-70 turbine, titled MAP2C, marking a significant advancement in the company’s power generation technology.
The unveiling of the turbine, also known as MGT-70 (4), took place following the successful operation of the turbine at the fifth unit of the Parand Combined Cycle Power Plant.
The new design represents a leap forward in the MGT-70 family’s capabilities, utilizing the full potential of existing equipment to enhance power plant products and services.
On February 24, 2024, the first unit equipped with this turbine was synchronized with the national grid at Parand Power Plant in southwest Tehran.
Later in the month, the turbine was officially introduced to the public in a ceremony attended by MAPNA Group President Mohammad Owliya presiding over the ceremony.
The MAP2C design is the culmination of years of research and development by the MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA).
It boasts an output of 190 MW and an efficiency of 36.5% under ISO conditions, outperforming its predecessor, the MGT-70 (3), by 5 MW and 0.1% efficiency.
A key innovation in the MAP2C is the redesigned cooling system for the gas turbine’s hot blades, including the first and second stage fixed blades and the first stage moving blade. This redesign, based on local expertise, has enabled a 15-degree increase in combustion temperature, resulting in enhanced power output and efficiency.
Furthermore, the new turbine’s life mode capability extends maintenance intervals from 41,000 to 50,000 hours of operation, offering substantial cost savings and improved turbine accessibility.
The successful development and deployment of the MAP2C is attributed to the collaborative efforts of MAPNA Group’s specialists across various divisions, including TUGA, MAPNA Turbine Blade Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARTO), MAPNA Operation & Maintenance Company, and the investment and power plant service sectors.
