Sabzevar Power Plant Officially Inaugurated, Providing Power to 790,000 Homes

The first gas unit of Sabzevar Combined Cycle Power Plant was officially inaugurated to mark the start of the 183-MW unit.

The inauguration took place via a video conference attended by Acting President Mohammad Mokhbar and Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian on June 20, 2024.

The plant, upon completion, can produce 546 MW of electricity using two MAP2B gas turbines (each with a capacity of 183 MW) and one steam turbine (with a capacity of 180 MW). Additionally, a 400 kV substation ensures efficient power distribution.

The construction of the Sabzevar Combined Cycle Power Plant aligns with the region’s growing electricity demand in Razavi Khorasan province, northeast of Iran.

The project, overseen by MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1) Company, will benefit over 790 thousand households.

Notably, the gas unit achieved synchronization with the national grid in late February. It received a provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) just 26 days after completing trial run operations in late May—a record achievement in the past 15 years.

The power plant is located near Sabzevar city on the Sabzevar-Shahroud road, northeast Iran. The project’s client is Ofogh Tosé Energy Khalij Fars Company and Moshanir serves as the consultant.
