MAPNA Group has signed a deal with Sanabad Inclusive Development Industrial and Mining Company (SIMIDCO) for developing a medium-scale power plant using an MGT-40 gas turbine.
The contract was inked between MAPNA Group President Abbas Aliabadi and SIMIDCO CEO Mohammad Madanifar on December 19, 2022, on the sidelines of the 1st “Specialized Seminar of Energy in Steel Industry”, held in Tehran.
With a nominal capacity of 42 MWs, SIMIDCO’s gas power plant will be erected in Sangan, southeast of Razavi Khorasan Province. Documents related to the assessment of contractors were offered in November 2021, and tender documents were published in June 2022. Following negotiations, MAPNA Group was named as the contractor of the project last month.
The contract includes engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning in four months, training operators, and provision of spare parts. The power plant will run on gas as the primary fuel but can also use a secondary fuel with the installation of some auxiliary equipment.
SIMIDCO is a subsidiary of Khuzestan Steel Company.
MAPNA’s medium-scale power plants have the ability to generate offshore and off-grid power and are economically suitable for various industries.
The advantages of these units include proper construction, installation and commissioning speed. Another advantage of these units is the limited land area required.
As a completely indigenous product, the MAPNA-developed MGT-40 unit is an unrivaled alternative to overcome power shortages. The one-day specialized seminar was organized by the Iranian Steel producers Association (ISPA) with a focus on the challenges around electricity and gas in steel production. High-ranking officials from Iranian oil, energy, and industry ministries as well as CEOs of major steel producers participated in the event.
