MD-1 Reaches 20,000 MW Milestone with Gol Gohar Sirjan Power Plant Synchronization

The second gas unit of the Gol Gohar Sirjan Combined Cycle Power Plant (Block II) was successfully synchronized with the national grid on October 24, 2024.

With this synchronization, the total number of temporarily delivered power plant units by MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1) has reached 127 units, with a combined capacity of 20,013 megawatts.

This project, as part of the infrastructure for supplying electricity to the Gol Gohar industrial area, has played a significant role in creating jobs both directly and indirectly in the region’s industrial development plans.

Ensuring a stable energy supply to the Gol Gohar area and reducing blackouts, especially during peak consumption periods, are notable features of this project.

The overarching goals of this initiative include environmental protection, improvement and development of social and economic performance, increased efficiency, and reduced energy waste, all aimed at achieving sustainable development in this major industrial area.

About Gol Gohar Sirjan Power Plant

The project for constructing the second block of the Gol Gohar Sirjan combined cycle power plant has a nominal capacity of 546 megawatts under ISO conditions. It includes two gas units, each with a capacity of 183 megawatts, and one steam unit with a capacity of 180 megawatts.

The project contract for the power plant was signed in 2013. The plant is situated at the 50th kilometer of the Sirjan-Shiraz road. The steam unit has an E Type steam turbine (E30-16-1×6.3).

The gas units were initially equipped with gas turbines with a capacity of 166 MW each. However, around 2020, the turbines were upgraded from MAP2+ to MAP2B version, which increased their output to 183 MW each.

The plant also employs an ACC system for cooling and an HRSG (heat recovery steam generator) with an auxiliary boiler for heat recovery.

The client for this project is Gohar Energy Sirjan Company, and the consultant is Ghods Niroo Engineering Company.

It is noteworthy that with the operation of these two gas units, an additional 366 megawatts have been added to the country’s electricity production capacity.
