Vision and Growth Opportunities in Iran’s Petrochemical Industry

In line with its strategic vision and precise planning, MAPNA Group took its first practical steps into this sector in 2020 by establishing the MAPNA Parsian Petrochemical Complex.

MAPNA Parsian: Major Strides in Energy and Petrochemicals

MAPNA Group has played a significant role in various oil, gas, and petrochemical projects in recent years, including Mobin, Fajr, Damavand, and Bidboland Persian Gulf Petrochemical Plants. These valuable experiences paved the way for MAPNA’s entry into the petrochemical sector and the launch of projects such as the GTX Petrochemical Project in the Parsian Energy Intensive Industrial Special Economic Zone (PEISEZ).

Future projects in this sector will leverage MAPNA’s core capabilities in engineering, equipment manufacturing, project management, financing, and operations to meet both domestic and global demands.

Strategic Projects of MAPNA Parsian Petrochemical Company

Given the challenges in ensuring a sustainable gas supply and shifts in national energy policy, MAPNA Parsian Petrochemical Company has redefined its development roadmap with a pragmatic approach, focusing on downstream methanol projects and quick-yield initiatives. Two key development phases have been outlined:

Phase One: Fuel Ethanol Production Project – A Strategic Opportunity for Clean Fuel and Environmental Protection

This project is designed to improve fuel quality, reduce air pollution, and capitalize on environmental opportunities. As a quick-return, low-feedstock project, fuel ethanol production not only enhances gasoline quality but also holds export potential to global markets. In light of the growing domestic demand for clean fuels and international environmental priorities, this project represents a meaningful step toward advancing Iran’s petrochemical sector and renewable energy landscape. It is also expected to enhance energy security.

Phase Two: Development of Downstream Methanol Projects in PEISEZ

The Parsian Energy Intensive Industrial Special Economic Zone, equipped with suitable infrastructure and an annual production potential of 18 million tons of petrochemical products, offers a strategic platform for the development and export of petrochemical goods.

Focusing on value chain completion and leveraging regional opportunities, this phase aims to produce a diverse range of downstream products from methanol. These projects, currently in the design and planning stage, are intended to optimize gas resource utilization and address both domestic and export market needs. Expected products include gasoline from methanol, methylamines, ammonia, ammonium sulfate, and acetic acid.

MAPNA Group has already acquired an 80-hectare plot of land and signed agreements to secure gas feedstock and fuel, marking the initial operational steps of this phase.

Optimizing the Value Chain in Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals

Through strategic investments across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, MAPNA Group aims to maximize the value extracted from its projects by improving overall efficiency. This approach not only fosters domestic industrial development but also enables MAPNA to strengthen its presence in global markets.
