Membrane technologies for seawater desalination have received a lot of attention in recent years, thanks to advancements in membrane manufacturing around the world. Membrane separation processes vary depending on the type of separation, but they all have one thing in common: the presence of a membrane plate that prevents the two phases from mixing. Reverse osmosis is the process of applying more pressure than osmotic pressure to a higher concentration solution, which is the inverse of natural osmosis. This pressure increases the concentration of the solution on one side of the membrane (saline water side) while increasing the volume of fresh water with lower concentration of soluble particles on the other side (filtered side). The required pressure is determined by the TDS of the raw water.
