Kahnuj Combined Cycle Power Plant
The construction of the Kahnuj (Shobad) combined cycle power plant was undertaken with the aim of meeting the electricity requirements in the southeastern region of the country, as well as stabilizing the power grid and strengthening power transmission and distribution networks. This initiative was facilitated through a guaranteed electricity purchase contract between the investor and the Ministry of Energy.
Mapna Group initiated the implementation of the first phase of the plant in early 2014. The project’s first gas unit became operational during the next winter, followed by the second gas unit in the spring of 2015. The steam unit was synchronized with the national network in September 2016.
The Kahnuj combined cycle power plant comprises two gas units, each with a capacity of 324 MWs (162 MWs per unit), and a steam unit with a capacity of 160 MWs. The plant uses V94.2 gas turbines as well as E-Type steam turbines.
A consortium of MAPNA Group companies, led by MAPNA Combined Cycle Power Plants Construction & Development (MD-2), assumed responsibility for the construction of this power plant.
