For the first time in its history, MAPNA Group was host to a president in its facilities. John Dramani Mahama, president of the Republic of Ghana who was on a three-day visit to Iran took a tour of the company’s factories on Monday February 15, 2016.
Dramani Mahama who was accompanied by Mahmoud Hojjati, Minister of Agriculture and co-chairman of the Iran-Ghana Joint Commission, was received by MAPNA CEO Abbas Aliabadi in MAPNA PARS Company on Monday afternoon.
Ghanaian President then took a tour of PARS and TUGA companies where MAPNA designs and manufactures its generators, and gas and steam turbines.
The president of Ghana hailed MAPNA for its technological achievements and world-class turbines, calling it “impressive” and a sign of “the resilience of the Iranian people” during the sanctions. Dramani Mahama also hoped for further collaboration between the Iranian power giant and Ghana. “I have talked to President Rouhani and we have agreed for cooperation between MAPNA and Ghana,” he added.
MAPNA CEO Abbas Aliabadi also welcomed cooperation between MAPNA and Ghana. “MAPNA can address Ghana’s power needs with reasonable price and high quality in a short span” Aliabadi said. He expressed the company’s readiness to play a role in Ghana’s thermal, wind and hydroelectric power projects.
Located in West Africa, the Republic of Ghana is embarking upon massive projects to double its current 2500 MW power capacity in order to meet the demands of its growing economy.
MAPNA has carried out international power projects in Oman and Indonesia. The company is currently engaged in construction of a 3000 MW power plant in Rumaila, Iraq, and a 50 MW power plant project in Benin, also in West Africa.
