In a key step for critical infrastructure expansion, the Qeshm plant’s steam unit achieved synchronization at 11:42 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, marking a new milestone in boosting reliable electricity supply.
The steam unit adds 160 MW to the capacity of the plant which has been in commercial operation since 2020.
The plant uses a once-through cooling system, drawing water directly from the Persian Gulf. It also includes facilities to desalinate 8,000 m³ of seawater per day.
The project is executed for the client Energy Gostar Qeshm, with consulting by Quds Niroo Engineering Co., and delivered by a MAPNA consortium led by MAPNA Special Projects Construction & Development Co. (MD-3) as the main contractor.
With this synchronization, the total installed capacity of the Qeshm combined-cycle plant reaches 500 MW. This capacity supports both the island’s domestic and industrial needs and helps back up the national grid.
Since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2025), the synchronized capacity of plants executed by MD-3 has grown to 790 MW, making the MAPNA subsidiary a leading contributor to balancing Iran’s power production and consumption.
