The construction of the second block of Gol Gohar Sirjan Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) commenced in 2022 with the objective of ensuring a sustainable power supply for the major mining and industrial facilities in Gol Gohar region. MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company (MD-2), a subsidiary of MAPNA Group, implemented the project.
Block 2 of the Gol Gohar CCPP comprises two gas units, each with a capacity of 183 megawatts as well as one steam unit with a capacity of 180 megawatts. The total nominal capacity of the plant is 546 megawatts under ISO conditions. The use of indigenous technology and the maximum utilization of the manufacturing capabilities and domestic supply chain of the MAPNA Group are among the key features of the project. The site’s distance from urban areas, logistical constraints, air pollution caused by iron-ore dust, and the high groundwater level were among the major challenges encountered during the project.
Increasing power generation capacity, reducing the risk of power restrictions and outages during peak-demand periods, supporting the continuity of mining and industrial operations, creating direct and indirect employment, and improving energy efficiency through a sustainable development approach are among the key impacts and achievements of the project.
With the completion of this milestone, the number of power generation units permanently handed over by MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company (MD-2) has reached 136 units, with a cumulative capacity of 21,357 megawatts.
The project is located in Sirjan, Kerman Province, approximately 50 kilometers along the Sirjan–Shiraz road. Omid Taban Hoor Sirjan Power Generation Company serves as the employer, while Qods Niroo Engineering Company is responsible for consultancy and supervision services.
