On Saturday, August 20, 2016, MAPNA Group was host to a group of engineering students from Iraq.

The group, hailing from the University of Karbala in southern Iraq, paid a visit to MAPNA facilities in Karaj, forty kilometers west of Tehran, where the industrial group manufactures its power plant machinery.

The four-hour visit started at MAPNA Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARS) where students were introduced to generator manufacturing procedures, including heavy turning and winding, and observed the wind turbine blade investment casting process.

Iraqi students visited MAPNA Electric & Control Engineering & Manufacturing Company (MECO) in the second leg of their tour, where they were acquainted with manufacturing and testing of control systems, including MAPCS, MAPNA’s homegrown automation and process control system.

MAPNA’s Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA) was the final host of the tour. MAPNA’s gas and steam turbines, including the types installed in Rumaila power plant in the city of Basra, were introduced to the students.

MAPNA has been an active partner in Iraq’s power projects. Al-Sadr and Haidariya power plants have been already commissioned to the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq, while MAPNA is working on the megaproject of Rumaila. Upon completion, the power plant will add a substantial 3000-MW capacity to Iraq’s national grid.
