On Thursday, December 15, 2016, His Excellency Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, paid a visit to MAPNA Group factories in Karaj, west of Tehran.
Mr. Jonan, who has been a member of Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s high-ranking delegation visiting Tehran this week, took a tour of MAPNA’s companies Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA), Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARS), and Turbine Blade Company (PARTO) during his three-hour visit.
He was accompanied by Mr. Sofyan Basir, President Director of the state-owned electricity company PLN and senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
A diverse range of MAPNA’s power plant products, including gas, steam, and wind turbines, mobile power plants, generators, and turbine blades and vanes were displayed for the Indonesian delegation during their tour of the three factories. The group also paid a visit to PARS Company’s Research and Development Center.
“MAPNA’s ability in developing its products in an end-to-end manner is impressive” stated Sarwono Sudarto, PLN Director of Finance. “We will explore conditions immediately” for collaboration with MAPNA, said Mr. Jonan, Minister of Energy to MAPNA Media Department.
Earlier on Thursday, MAPNA CEO Abbas Aliabadi and PLN President Director Sofyan Basir signed a memorandum of understanding in Tehran. “The MoU lays the groundwork for MAPNA’s presence in Indonesia, and the larger Southeast Asia region” said Khalil Behbahani, CEO of MAPNA Investment Division.
The tour of MAPNA factories was the third leg of Indonesian officials’ encounter with MAPNA during their hectic three-day visit to Iran. The two sides had held a working lunch earlier on Tuesday.
This was the first visit by Indonesian minister of energy to MAPNA factories. However, the company has been host to Indonesia ambassador to Iran Mr. Octaviano Alimuddin in July 2015 and Indonesian media in September 2014.
As Iran’s largest power company, MAPNA has expanded its overseas business in the recent years. The company is currently constructing the 3000 MW Rumaila Power Plant in Najaf, southern Iraq. MAPNA has carried out O&M services in Indonesia, particularly in Belawan Power Plant in northern Sumatra.
