MAPNA Group has successfully launched the first unit of a ten-wagon freight train that has been completely designed and manufactured by its subsidiaries.
“The new train, consisting of MAP24 locomotive and ten four-axle high-sided box wagons, was recently test-launched at Ardakan Station [central Iran] and is now ready for operation,” Morteza Ali-Ahmadi, the CEO of MAPNA Multimodal Transportation Company said on Monday.
The MAP24 locomotive has been designed and developed by MAPNA Locomotive Engineering & Manufacturing Company (MLC). It has a 3300-hp engine; 78% of the locomotive’s parts are designed and produced by Iranian experts and are comparable to imported locomotives in terms of quality.
The train’s wagons have been developed by Wagon Pars Company (WPCO), another MAPNA subsidiary.
According to Ali-Ahmadi, “WPCO is tasked to deliver 1,000 wagons to MAPNA, which is planned in three phases of 400, 300 and 300, respectively”.
MAPNA Group has been working hard to expand and diversify its products and services in the transportation sector.
The Group officially acquired WPCO in December 2020 in line with the plans to provide comprehensive solutions for the country’s rail industry issues, facilitating Iran’s transformation into a rail transport corridor.
WPCO is one of the leading wagon manufacturers and exporters of wagons in the region. So far, the company has delivered around 12,000 wagons to the Iranian and international rail sectors. Presently, it manufactures approximately all kinds of freight wagons and passenger coaches, shunting and main line locomotives, train set (DMU’s), metro cars and airport passenger boarding bridges.
The WPCO’s freight wagons (licensed by the Austrian Wagon Union) include two-axle flat wagons, four-axle high-sided box wagons, six-axle high-sided box wagons, grain hopper wagons, gas tank wagons, fuel tank wagons, low-sided bogie box wagons, ballast wagons, and bulk goods wagons for transporting powders such as cement.
