MAPNA Group unveiled its first portable oxygen concentrator, earmarked for COVID-19 patients.
The concentrator is Iran’s first domestically manufactured device of its type.
The product made its maiden display during a visit by Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Education Ghasem Janbabaei to MAPNA Group factories on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
Visiting MAPNA Group industrial complex on the outskirts of Karaj, Janbabaei was briefed about MAPNA Group’s capabilities and scope of activities, as well as its knowledge-based products.
“MAPNA Group has aimed for manufacturing 14 key medical equipment in the healthcare sector and welcomes collaboration with interested partners in this regard,” said MAPNA President Abbas Aliabadi.
Aliabadi added that MAPNA Group is ready to speed up production of oxygen concentrators for faster treatment of COVID-19 patients.
“MAPNA is Iran’s leading technology hub” Aliabadi said. “We are capable of manufacturing healthcare sector’s main equipment.”
Aliabadi added that MAPNA is ready to invest in the health sector at the same volume of its investments in other business areas.
Deputy Minister Ghasem Janbabaei welcomed MAPNA Group’s involvement in the healthcare business. “COVID-19 has made the science of medicine aware of its weaknesses. All countries should have a full-scale review of their diagnosis and treatment procedures,” he said.
Janbabaei asked MAPNA Group to manufacture its oxygen concentrators as fast as possible considering the urgent need of COVID-19 patients for oxygen treatment.
Janbabaei called diagnosis the second most important priority for the pandemic’s patients. “Rapid production and operation of diagnosis machines makes treatment of COVID-19 patients more efficient,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of CT scan process in diagnosing COVID-19 cases, Deputy Health Minister called for MAPNA Group to collaborate in manufacturing the device.
MAPNA Group entered the health sector in 2015 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health. MAPNA Healthcare Company, MAPNA Group’s subsidiary in charge of the healthcare business, has targeted 146 medical centers as potential partners, of which 135 have already signed memorandums of understanding.
So far, more than 1.1 million patients have received services provided by MAPNA Group medical products. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, approximately 80 thousand patients have received CT scan services provided by MAPNA Group devices.
MAPNA kicked off manufacturing of its portable oxygen concentrators in April 2020 during the early months of the spread of the virus in Iran. Portable and ideal in size, the oxygen concentrator has approved by Iran’s Ministry of Health.
The device, which works through a pressure swing absorption (PSA) mechanism, is cost-effective, operationally convenient, and rated high for oxygen purity as well as safety and security.
