New Contract: MAPNA Group to Build Two Power Plants for Iran’s Major Copper Producer

The head of MAPNA Group and the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) signed a contract for building two power plant units within two major copper complexes.

The official signing took place on June 8, 2024, during a comprehensive tour of MAPNA Group’s manufacturing facilities by NICICO’s CEO and a delegation of subsidiary managers. CEO of NICICO Hossein Modarresi Khiabani and MAPNA Group President Mohammad Owliya inked the contract.

The agreement outlines an 18-month project at the Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex and a 16-month endeavor at the Songun Copper Complex, both to be equipped with MGT-40 gas units under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) framework.

Further solidifying their collaborative efforts, the heads of the conglomerates also signed a memorandum of understanding to expand joint ventures across various sectors, including energy, transportation, industry and mining, digital transformation, investment, and water management.

The visit to MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA), MAPNA Turbine Blade Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARTO), and MAPNA Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARS), located in Karaj, Alborz Province, provided managers of Iran’s top copper producer with an in-depth look at MAPNA’s production capabilities in the field of energy.

Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex is the world’s second largest open-pit copper mine located in Kerman Province, south of Iran. Songun copper deposit is located in a mountainous area 100 kilometers north east of Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan province. The mine is estimated to have more than 700 million tons of grade 0.661% copper ore reserves.
