MAPNA Group Signs Contract to Build 630-MW Lamerd Power Plant in S Iran

A contract for the construction of a 630-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in Lamerd, southern Iran, was signed between Ghadir Energy Company and MAPNA Group.

The agreement covers the turnkey construction of two gas-fired units using F-class gas turbines.

The contract was signed by Hamed Zandieh, CEO of Ghadir Energy, and Mohammad Owliya, MAPNA Group President, in the presence of senior executives from both organizations on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The contractor consortium includes companies from MAPNA Group and MAPNA Combined Cycle Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-2).

The project aims to supply electricity to the South Aluminum Corporation (SALCO), one of Iran’s largest aluminum producers, located in the Lamerd Special Economic Zone.

This region, situated in the south of Fars Province near the Persian Gulf, is strategically important for Iran’s industrial and energy infrastructure. It has been designated as a hub for heavy industry, particularly in metals.

The use of F-class turbines in this project is part of broader efforts to address electricity supply imbalances and expand Iran’s generation capacity. F-class turbines are known for their higher efficiency and output compared to older models, aligning with the country’s goal of modernizing its power sector.

This project was part of a series of power plants defined under the framework of a major agreement for building industrial power plants, which was signed in 2021. However, due to various challenges, the project came to a halt. Despite this, MAPNA Group, maintaining a constructive approach and working closely with the client, pursued the project’s implementation to prevent the waste of national resources. MD-2 managed to finalize the contract in a competitive process.
