MAPNA Group’s Iranian Aero Engine and Equipment Engineering and Manufacturing Company (MAPNA AERO) completed a full overhaul of an Arriel helicopter engine. It was delivered to Avā Salāmat on August 17, 2025, under strict MTIL-3 standards.
The ceremony was attended by Hossein Pourfarzaneh, head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization.
This marks the first time an Arriel engine has been repaired and delivered at an MTIL-3 level inside Iran.
Rouhollah Sobhāni, CEO of MAPNA AERO, praised the skilled specialists behind the achievement. He highlighted the group’s capabilities in overhauling engines for passenger aircraft.
He expressed hope that the company will earn more overhaul certifications for additional engines in the coming months.
Sobhāni emphasized the company’s commitment to maximum quality, aligning with the conglomerate’s standards. He stressed that by maintaining high quality and agility, the aviation unit aims to meet the needs of Iran’s aerial industry and bring its services closer to global norms.
At the handover event, Hosein Pourfarzaneh reflected on the four essential pillars of Iran’s aviation industry: the fleet (aircraft and helicopters), airport infrastructure, industrial support services, and trained human resources. He traced Iran’s aviation evolution since the 1960s, explaining that these four pillars have long guided the industry’s development.
Pourfarzaneh pointed out that the value of an aircraft often lies significantly in its engine—up to 50 percent of total value for new planes, and up to 70 percent for used ones.
He said this underlines the critical role of MAPNA AERO’s value chain, and its growing impact on the national aviation sector.
MAPNA Group has leveraged its deep engineering expertise in gas turbines to expand domestically into the aviation industry. The conglomerate’s aviation division now offers a full suite of services, including design, manufacturing, repair, and testing of aircraft engines and parts. It has repair certificates from Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, ensuring compliance with international standards
The division also designs and manufactures parts and test tools, and has engine test cells and portable test stands.
The Arriel is a turboshaft engine widely recognized for its modern design, reliability, and fuel efficiency. Developed by Safran Helicopter Engines, it delivers between 650 and 780 horsepower and powers more than 20 helicopter models worldwide, including many popular civil and utility aircraft.
