MAPNA Group Awarded Strategic Project to Reduce Water Consumption by ۸۰% at Tabriz Steam Power Plant

The contract was signed during a ceremony on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Senior executives from MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1), the Civil Servants Pension Fund (Saba Energy), and Social Security Investment Company also known as SHASTA attended.

Based on technical studies and estimates, the implementation of the Tabriz Steam Power Plant cooling system optimization will enable an approximately 80% reduction in water consumption. This will decrease the annual water consumption per unit by nearly 5 million cubic meters from 6.22 million to 1.25 million.

The water saved through this project for each power plant unit equals the amount of water consumed by a city of 98,000 residents annually. In addition to the environmental benefits and resource efficiency, this project will play a vital role in maintaining the Tabriz Steam Power Plant’s generation capacity. Technical assessments indicate that it will prevent a loss of around 50 megawatts of production capacity per unit and support sustainable electricity production under conditions of water scarcity.

Tabriz Steam Power Plant comprises two steam units, each with a nominal capacity of 368 megawatts. This plant is considered one of Iran’s key electricity generation facilities.

MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1) is the contractor of this project while Niroo Atieh Saba Company is the client. The signing of this contract marks a significant step toward developing modern water consumption management solutions in Iran’s power industry. It also serves as a testament to the clients’ confidence in the technical and executive capabilities of MAPNA in implementing specialized energy and efficiency projects.
