MAPNA Group on Sustainable Development Path

With an area of 2,014 square meters, Iran pavilion is located in the mobility zone at Expo Dubai next to France, Mexico and Peru pavilions, and is among the eight main pavillions of the exhibition.

The pavilion’s industry hall has been named after MAPNA Group, indicating the Group’s significant role in the country’s industrial development as well as its regional position.

Sustainability, mobility and opportunity are the three main focuses of the 182-day event in Dubai. The expo aims to address environmental challenges, such as climate change, and biodiversity conservation, which have been on top of MAPNA Group’s agenda in the past years through a collaborative and people-centered mindset.

One of MAPNA Group’s founding objectives is the employment of young people and reliable expertise, as well as the creation of job opportunities. That said, MAPNA has always prioritized collaboration with universities and knowledge-based businesses, hence, young experts have made significant contributions to the Group’s growth in the past three decades. MAPNA regards academia as a rich source of ideas for its innovation ecosystem, through which it can choose and refine the technologies employed in a new product, process, or service. Research and development forms a major part of MAPNA Group’s activities. The Group’s R&D has been in charge of looking into the less known areas in a variety of fields, including the oil & gas, energy, power, transportation and new businesses to find the right ingredients for the Group’s strategy to reach its outlook, including the country’s industrial growth.

Electrification of the transportation fleet and the manufacturing and operation of Iran’s first electric bus are among other MAPNA initiatives in order to create sustainable transportation and minimize energy consumption and environmental pollution. With electrification widely considered as an attractive solution for reducing the oil dependency and environmental impact of road transportation, switching to electrified road transport under the sustainable shared socioeconomic pathways gives us an optimistic outlook for a low-carbon transition. MAPNA Group has also emabrked on the electrification of the railway secotr, by prioritizing the design and manufacture of fully-electric and diesel-electric locomotives.

Environmental degradation and climatic change, particularly global warming, have undeniably accompanied the industrial advancements, establishment of numerous factories, and large-scale constructions. One strategy to slow down or stop this rapid trend is to replace unsustainable industries with activities that are less harmful to the environment.

MAPNA Group has seriously followed the path of sustainable development by entering new businesses and has accomplished significant projects in such fields. Construction and operation of renewable projects such as the Kahak wind and solar farms and the Aqkand wind farm, conversion of gas power plant units to combined cycles, electrification of the transportation fleet, and investment in the water sector are among the Group’s actions to expand new industries that would bring less environmental consequences.

Iran has suffered from drought for decades due to several factors, including the rapid population growth and its impact on increasing water consumption, and resource mismanagement, combined with the country’s semi-arid geography and low annual rainfall. Taking into account its social responsibility and concerns about national challenges, MAPNA Group has entered the critical water sector by investing, engineering, construction, implementation, and operation of thermal and membrane desalination projects, and water and power cogenration projects, as well as supplementary wastewater treatment plants.
