Mapna Group

Water Industry

Since 2001, MAPNA Group has implemented diverse projects in the water industry. These projects include purification and supply of demineralized water for combined-cycle power plants, seawater desalination and production of potable water, and the treatment and recycling of industrial and sanitary wastewater to improve efficiency in the industry. Additionally, the group has utilized modern smart technologies in enhancing productivity in agriculture.

MAPNA’s water business is built upon three main pillars: developing seawater desalination and water transfer technologies, recycling industrial and municipal wastewater, and managing water consumption in the agriculture sector. These three not only address Iran’s immediate needs but also pave the way for sustainable development for the country and the region.

The distribution of rainfall in Iran is uneven; while one percent of Iran’s land area receives over 1,000 mm of precipitation, areas such as the eastern basin receive approximately 148 mm. The consequences of this situation are evident in the drying of lakes, rivers, and wetlands, declining groundwater levels, land subsidence, degradation of water quality, soil erosion, desertification, and an increase in dust storms.

Water stress management strategies are divided into two categories: short-term and long-term solutions. Short-term solutions are primarily centered on supply management, and long-term solutions are mainly based on demand management as well as the macro policies of the water sector.

Water desalination is one of the most feasible approaches of supplying water in regions that have access to seawater. Common desalination methods include thermal methods (including MSF or MED), membrane methods (RO) and hybrid thermal and membrane methods.

Water Industry

Services

MAPNA entered the water sector driven by two primary reasons: first, Iran’s pressing need for technological solutions to manage water resources, and second, the opportunity to apply the Group’s engineering and technical capabilities in a field closely interconnected with energy. MAPNA’s projects in the water industry span a wide range, from large reverse osmosis and thermal desalination plants along the southern coast to wastewater treatment units in industrial cities.

Design, Supply, Installation & Commissioning of Municipal & Industrial Wastewater Treatment Projects

MAPNA Group, with the help of its subsidiaries and skilled human resources active in the field of water and wastewater, plays a vital role as an EPC contractor in the country’s wastewater treatment projects.

Repair, Maintenance & Operation of Desalination & Wastewater Treatment Plants

Beyond our expertise in desalination, wastewater treatment, and EPC services for water sector projects, we put an emphasis on the reliable operation, maintenance, and periodic inspection of infrastructure. In this regard, MAPNA Operation and Maintenance Company (MAPNA O&M) leverages a highly efficient and skilled workforce specialized in the water industry. The company possesses a robust track record in the water sector.

Design, Supply, Installation and Commissioning of Desalination Plants

As an EPC contractor, MAPNA Group provides a wide range of services for the supply, installation, and commissioning of various water desalination facilities, including thermal desalination plants MED-TVC, membrane seawater desalination plants (SWRO), brackish water desalination plants (BWRO), and hybrid desalination plants that combine both thermal and membrane desalination methods. Depending on the nature of each project, one of MAPNA Group subsidiaries is assigned as an EPC contractor to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services.

Water Industry

Products

MAPNA Group, as a pioneering industrial enterprise, has prioritized the localization of water industry equipment in accordance with plans to tackle water scarcity, which is currently the country’s biggest challenge.

Water Industry

Solutions

The scarcity of water resources has escalated into a critical national crisis. The signs of growing water stress are shortages in drinking water, agriculture, and industry, drying of lakes and rivers, declining aquifers, land subsidence, desertification, and severe dust storms. In order to address this, short-term solutions are mainly focused on supply management while long-term solutions stress on demand management and macro-level policy making.

MAPNA offers comprehensive solutions that include modern irrigation, wastewater recycling, seawater desalination, and the nexus of water and renewable energy. The company focuses on two key areas: harnessing non-conventional water sources—through desalination, seawater transfer, and advanced wastewater recycling—and improving efficiency in the agricultural sector. These initiatives are essential to securing the future of our cities and industries.
