Iran’s leading power company MAPNA and Indonesia’s State Electricity Company (PLN) signed a memorandum of understanding in Tehran on Thursday, December 15, 2016.

The document was signed between Abbas Aliabadi, President of MAPNA Group, and Sofyan Basir, President Director of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the Republic of Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company.

“The MoU lays the groundwork for MAPNA’s presence in Indonesia, and the larger Southeast Asia region” said Khalil Behbahani, CEO of MAPNA Investment Division, adding that MAPNA could contribute to the energy sector of Indonesia through IPP (independent power producer), EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction), EPCF (engineering, procurement, construction, and financing) and operation & maintenance projects.

An Indonesian energy delegation led by the country’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan has been in Iran since Tuesday, accompanying Mr. Joko Widodo, president of the Southeast Asian country during his two-day visit to Tehran.

Minister of Energy Mr. Jonan also led his team during a three-hour visit on Thursday afternoon to MAPNA factories on the outskirts of the city of Karaj, 40 kilometers west of Tehran, where they took a tour of MAPNA’s Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA), Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Company (PARS), and Turbine Blade Company (PARTO).

The two sides had also held a working lunch on Tuesday. As Iran’s largest power company, MAPNA has expanded its overseas business in the recent years. The company is currently constructing the 3000 MW Rumaila Power Plant in Najaf, southern Iraq. MAPNA has carried out O&M services in Indonesia, particularly in Belawan Power Plant in northern Sumatra.
