Energy Minister Visits Rudshur Power Plant, Reviews Steam Unit Progress

Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi paid a visit to Rudshur Combined Cycle Power Plant, reviewing the progress of the steam unit.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the minister, accompanied by the Governor of Markazi Province, senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, and MAPNA Group, visited various sections of the Rudshur Combined Cycle Power Plant.

The visit focused on reviewing progress in the steam unit development, discussing synchronization plans, and identifying project challenges.

During the visit, Aliabadi highlighted the unique nature of the steam unit being developed at the Rudshur Power Plant.

He noted that the new unit, using latent energy from the plant’s gas units, will generate power without the need for additional gas or fossil fuels. The unit will have a nominal capacity of 345 megawatts, with an expected output of at least 250 megawatts supplied to the national grid.

Aliabadi acknowledged that construction had slowed in recent months due to financial challenges, but he emphasized that the project would accelerate as these issues are resolved.

The Rudshur Combined Cycle Power Plant, located 43 kilometers along the Tehran-Saveh Highway, plays a vital role in maintaining voltage and frequency control for the power network in the capital.

The steam turbine being installed is the first and only F-class turbine in Iran, with a nominal capacity of 345 megawatts, featuring a 3-3-1 configuration (three gas turbines, three heat recovery boilers, and one steam turbine).

This design increases steam flow by 70% compared to E-class turbines, doubling the power output.

The F-class turbine’s high efficiency boosts the plant’s overall efficiency from 39.1% in simple cycle mode to over 59% in combined cycle mode, significantly reducing fuel consumption and environmental emissions.

Amir Kabir Electricity Generation & Development Company is the client of the project.

The contract, initiated in August 2017, entrusts MAPNA Group with the comprehensive scope of engineering, constructing, installing, and commissioning the steam cycle, which will operate alongside the Rudshur Thermal Power Plant. The project’s management is under the expertise of MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1), a subsidiary known for its technical prowess, engineering ingenuity, and rich history of accomplishments.
