MAPNA Group is set to play larger role in the development of Tehran Metro Line 6 megaproject by conducting routine repair maintenance of the electrical and mechanical equipment of the subway line.
According to an agreement between the Tehran Urban & Suburban Railway Operation Company and MAPNA Rail Construction & Development Company (MRC), the MRC has been tasked with performing periodic and emergency maintenance, equipment procurement, and engineering on Line 6.
The agreement, which took effect on October 23, 2021, will last for one year.
Electrical equipment, controls systems and signals, facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, railways, escalators, elevators, air conditioners and inter-tunnel vents, as well as access gates and SCADA systems, are all part of the contract.
The deal, which has a 5-year extension option, is the country’s first time entrusting the maintenance and periodic repairs of an entire subway line to a single contractor.
On November 07, 2021, a MAPNA Group consortium consisting of MAPNA Railway Construction and Development Company and Sabir Dam & Water Works Construction Company won a tender to construct the first phase Line Six’s depot and Dolat-Abad Station.
The project is envisaged to be completed within 24 months.
The Tehran Metro Line 6 marks MAPNA Group’s first move in the subway civil engineering.
Once fully operational, Line 6 will give the capital’s subway system the longest route in Iran. The line will stretch over 31 kilometers with 27 stations, starting from Sulqan in the northwest and ending in Dolat-Abad district in the southeast.
In further stages, Line 6 will expand to Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine in the ancient district of Rey to the south of the city, becoming the longest subway route in the Middle East with 36 kilometers of length.
Tehran Metro Line 6 has two important features: first, it equips the southeastern areas of Tehran as well as the districts 2 and 5 in the west and northwest, which are the most populous areas of the city, with modern transportation system; second, Line 6 intersects with all other Tehran Metro lines.
The first phase of Line 6, stretching nine kilometers with 3 stations, opened in March 2019 and three more stations joined the line in October 2020. Efforts have been made by the Central Bank of Iran, Tehran Municipality, and the government, to accelerate the complete implementation of the project.
