The Fifth V94.2 Simple and Combined Cycle Power Plants Users Conference was held on 15th and 16th of December 2015 in Parand, 30 km southwest of Tehran. MAPNA hosted the event in collaboration with Power Plants Users’ Association.

MAPNA CEO Abbas Aliabadi was a keynote speaker of the conference. Speaking of MAPNA Group’s plans for both areas of products and services, Aliabadi announced manufacturing of a new generation of turbines in near future. “We will indigenize these turbines through a strategic agreement” Aliabadi told the audience.

Increased focus on after-sales services, diversification of the basket of products, optimization efficiency of existing power plants, and formation of joint ventures with world-renowned companies MAPNA’s plans for future, Aliabadi said.

Deputy Power Minister in Electricity and Energy Affairs Houshang Falahatian also spoke in the conference. Pointing to the increasing presence of international companies in Iran and partnership offers following the nuclear agreement, Falahatian stated that the Ministry of Power welcomes transfer of technology by well-known international companies. Nonetheless, he reminded the audience that “there is no doubt that we will first and foremost rely on MAPNA”. “In Ministry of Power … we see supporting MAPNA as our mission,” he added.

Falahatian called V94.2 turbines an epitome of technology transfer, self-reliance and indigenization in Iran’s power industry. Deputy Minister of Energy asked power plant users to overcome the hurdles in converting simple units into combined cycle units, pointing to the ministry’s upcoming incentive schemes for increased efficiency.

CEO of MAPNA Operation and Maintenance Company Abdolghafour Ziaei, whose company was the main host of the event, also addressed the audience. “By the end of 1394 [March 2016], 44 percent of Iran’s power capacity will be provided by V94.2-using units” he said, adding that no incidents have happened for V94.2 in the recent years.

This was the second time Parand Combined Cycle Power Plant hosted the V94.2 Conference. The 2011 and 2012 conferences were held in Damavand Power Plant, east of Tehran. Parand was host to the meeting for the first time in 2013, while Kerman hosted the event in 2014.
