MAPNA Launches Inlet Air Cooling System at Sanandaj Combined Cycle Power Plant

MAPNA Group has successfully commissioned the inlet air cooling system for four gas units at the Sanandaj Combined Cycle Power Plant.

The design, procurement, and commissioning of the turbine inlet air cooling system were carried out to enhance output during peak electricity demand.

MAPNA O&M Company (MAPNA Operation and Maintenance Company) implemented the project as the turnkey contractor under a six-month contract. MAPNA Sanandaj Power Generation Company is the owner of the plant.

The initiative, launched in December 2024 as part of MAPNA Group’s corporate responsibility efforts to help balance the national power grid, saw the installation of a media cooling system across all gas units of the plant.

With ambient temperatures reaching 39°C in recent days, the system has boosted output by approximately 17 to 20 megawatts per unit — resulting in a total increase of around 75 megawatts across the plant.

Commissioning and commercial operation of the system officially began on June 21, 2025, in line with the project timeline.

Until June 27, the system was brought online multiple times at the request of the National Dispatching Center.

Sanandaj Combined Cycle Power Plant consists of four gas turbines of V94.2 version of Ansaldo Company, each with a capacity of 159 MW and two steam units each with a capacity of 160 MW. The power plant is located on a 72 hectare land 7 km from Sanandaj on the road to Saqqez. It is among the first private power plants in the country registered in the energy stock market.
