MAPNA Launches Technocenter with Iran’s First Lithium-Ion Battery Pilot Line

MAPNA Group has officially unveiled its Technocenter and brought into operation Iran’s first pilot line to produce lithium-ion battery cells.

At the inauguration ceremony for the MAPNA Technocenter, the company also introduced a home energy storage power station with 1.4 kWh and 2.6 kWh capacity. This marks a significant milestone: for the first time in Iran, a full pilot line for lithium-ion cells has begun operating.

MAPNA says its experts have fully localized the technology — transferring, adapting and building it entirely within the company.

This achievement positions Iran on the global value chain for advanced battery manufacturing. It also supports the country’s push toward technological independence in energy storage.

Lithium-ion batteries are critical due to their high energy density, long lifespan and strong reliability. They serve a wide range of applications — from home storage systems and backup power to electric vehicles and portable devices. Modern energy systems heavily depend on advanced storage solutions, according to MAPNA.

The importance of this development is especially clear in Iran’s current context, where energy production and consumption are imbalanced. Effective storage can improve grid stability, expand renewable energy use and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The Technocenter will act as MAPNA’s innovation arm, linking research, design, development and manufacturing under one roof, helping to convert ideas into viable, knowledge-based products.

The launch event, held on November 20, 2025, at MAPNA’s battery plant, was attended by MAPNA Group’s President, the Deputy Minister of Energy and head of SATBA (the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization), the chair of Electro-Kavir Industrial Group, Technocenter’s CEO, and senior MAPNA executives.

During his remarks, MAPNA Group President Mohammad Owliya emphasized the role of advanced energy technologies for the future. He described batteries as strategic across energy systems — from renewables and the grid to EVs, telecom and backup systems — and thanked Technocenter employees for their round-the-clock work.

Mohsen Tarz Talab, CEO of SATBA, congratulated MAPNA on the opening and affirmed his organization’s support for domestic battery production.

The Electro-Kavir chairman, praising MAPNA’s achievements, called the company “full of commitment and energy.”

Meanwhile Amir Abdollah, chair of the Technocenter’s board, said energy storage is vital for network stability and that lithium batteries will play an increasingly important global role.

Abdollah described the Technocenter as a major step toward turning ideas into products.

Later in the event, MAPNA’s battery specialists explained the cell production process in their clean-room pilot line.
