MAPNA Wins Long-Term Contract to Operate Butia Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Kerman

MAPNA Group's power services subsidiary has won the operation contract for the new 450-megawatt Butia Combined Cycle Power Plant in Kerman — marking the company’s first long-term operation agreement in a steel-industry complex.

MAPNA’s Power Services Company will manage the plant on behalf of Butia Iranian Steel Company (BISCO), part of the Middle East Mines & Mineral Industries Holding Company (MEMIH).

The Butia plant will help supply electricity to the regional industries and the Butia Steel Complex, while strengthening local grid stability.

The plant uses an air-cooled condenser (ACC) system, dramatically cutting water use. Its water demand is capped at 240 cubic meters per day, sourced from treated wastewater from Kerman County.

Located on a 45-hectare site along the Kerman-Zarand road (km 35), the 450 MW plant is being built inside the Butia Steel Complex.

Once completed, it is expected to support industrial growth in the region and create significant employment, approximately 500 jobs during construction and 150 jobs during operation.

Injecting surplus power from Butia into the national grid will address regional voltage drop issues.

It will also optimize fuel use, prevent waste of national energy resources, support further industrial development in Kerman province, and help protect the environment.
