Tehran Opens Holy Mary Metro Station with MAPNA Rail Division Leading Equipment Works

Tehran on Saturday inaugurated the Maryam-e-Moghaddas (Holy Mary) Metro Station on Line 6, marking a new addition to the capital’s expanding urban rail network.

The ceremony, held on November 29, 2025, brought together the mayor of Tehran, representatives of the Armenian and Assyrian communities in parliament, the Armenian Archbishop, members of the City Council, and senior municipal officials.

Contractors involved in the project, including MAPNA Group — responsible for the station’s equipment — also attended.

MAPNA Rail Construction and Development Company (MRC), the conglomerate’s specialized rail-equipment subsidiary, played a central role in preparing the station for service.

The company installed a comprehensive suite of mechanical and electrical systems, enabling full operational readiness.

Maryam-e-Moghaddas is the 161st station in Tehran’s metro network. It covers 11,000 square meters and is built 34 meters underground.

Its architecture draws inspiration from Christian symbols, reflecting the station’s name and the city’s recognition of interfaith respect.

Officials described the project as more than an engineering achievement, calling it a cultural symbol of “mutual respect among divine religions.”

A side event at the ceremony featured the unveiling of The Oral History of Metro Construction, a new book compiled by Ali Emam, CEO of MAPNA Mobility (transportation holding). The publication documents decades of technical, managerial, and human experiences behind Tehran’s metro development.

MAPNA Rail Construction and Development Company has been the main design-and-equipment contractor for Tehran Metro Line 6 since 2017.

Line 6 spans roughly 31 kilometers from Shohaday-e Kan Station in the northwest to Dolatabad in the southeast. It includes 27 underground stations, of which 25 are now operational. The line’s first dedicated power substation, located in Kianshahr, was also built and commissioned by MRC. Early last year, the southern extension of Line 6 — approximately 10 kilometers from Dolatabad to Shahr-e Rey — was formally awarded to the same MAPNA subsidiary, further expanding the company’s role in one of Tehran’s most strategic transportation corridors.
