MAPNA Receives FAC for Gas Unit of Golgohar Sirjan Plant

MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company, known MD-2, has successfully achieved permanent handover of the first gas unit of the Golgohar Sirjan Combined Cycle Power Plant Block 2.

According to MAPNA Group Media Management, the Block 2 construction project was launched in 2022 with the goal of supplying stable electricity to the large mining and industrial complexes in the Golgohar region.

The project relies on the technical expertise, execution experience, and management capabilities of MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company.

The power plant is located in Kerman Province, Sirjan County. It lies about 50 kilometers from the Sirjan–Shiraz road.

The second block consists of two 183-megawatt gas units and one 180-megawatt steam unit. It has a total nominal capacity of 546 megawatts under ISO conditions.

Extensive use of indigenous technology and maximum reliance on MAPNA Group’s domestic manufacturing and supply chain are key features of the project.

Omid Taban Hoor Energy Management Company holds a 96 percent stake in the project. MAPNA Group holds the remaining four percent. Qods Niroo Engineering Company has participated as the technical consultant during project execution.

The project was implemented under difficult national conditions. Major challenges included the site’s distance from urban areas, logistical constraints, air pollution caused by iron ore dust, and high groundwater levels.

These obstacles were addressed through detailed planning and continuous efforts by the MD-2 project team.

As a result, the permanent handover certificate (FAC) for the first gas unit of Block 2 was issued on June 18, 2025. It was formally notified to MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company on December 15, 2025.

With this milestone, the number of power plant units permanently delivered by MD-2 has reached 131 units. Their combined capacity now totals 20,511 megawatts.

Beyond its role in ensuring reliable electricity supply for Golgohar’s industries, the project has reduced the risk of power outages during peak demand.

It has also created direct and indirect employment and improved energy efficiency within a sustainable development framework. These outcomes reflect MD-2’s commitment to its national and social responsibilities. MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company has served for two decades as MAPNA Group’s specialized arm in thermal power plant development. During this period, it has played a central role in expanding power generation capacity at both national and regional levels.
