MAPNA Delivers 2nd Steam Unit of Sabalan Power Plant on Permanent Basis

MAPNA Group has officially achieved the permanent delivery of the second steam unit of the Sabalan Combined Cycle Power Plant.

MAPNA Group has officially achieved the permanent delivery of the second steam unit of the Sabalan Combined Cycle Power Plant.

According to MAPNA Group Media Management, the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) for the second steam unit of the Sabalan Combined Cycle Power Plant was handed to MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company (MD-2) on December 15, 2025.

The project for constructing three steam units at the Sabalan Combined Cycle Power Plant is regarded as one of the strategic energy infrastructure development projects in Iran’s northwest. The power plant is located 35 kilometers along the Ardabil–Meshgin Shahr road.

With the completion of this delivery, the total number of power generation units permanently handed over by MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company has reached 132 units, with an aggregate installed capacity of 20,671 megawatts.

As the project’s main contractor, MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company was fully responsible for engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.

Despite environmental and site-related constraints, the project was successfully brought into operation by relying on the technical expertise of Iranian engineers, integrated project management, and the maximum utilization of domestic capabilities.

The plant’s main equipment, including turbines, generators, and control systems, was entirely designed and manufactured inside the country by MAPNA Group subsidiaries.

This reflects the high level of technology localization and the strong capabilities of Iran’s power industry in executing large-scale power plant projects.

Throughout the project’s implementation, hundreds of Iranian specialists were involved in engineering, manufacturing, installation, and operation.

As a result, the Sabalan Combined Cycle Power Plant is recognized as a successful example of technology transfer, equipment localization, and world-class project execution.

Key achievements of the project include strengthening the national power infrastructure, supporting grid stability during peak demand periods, and ensuring reliable electricity supply.

The employer of the project is Sabalan Omid Power Company. The steam section of the power plant consists of three E-Type steam units, each with a capacity of 160 megawatts, along with an air-cooled condenser system.

The construction of the steam cycle has significantly increased overall efficiency, optimized fuel consumption, and reduced environmental emissions.
