Project Overview

The Natural Gas Storage Project in the Shourijeh D Reservoir (Khangiran) is one of the largest gas storage projects in Iran and the Middle East, executed by MAPNA Group and MAPNA Noor Kish Drilling Company under the management of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC).

The main objectives of the project are to drill 28 wells, construct wellhead facilities, flowlines, and gas injection systems, and to expand the country’s underground gas storage capacity.

With the implementation of this project and the second storage phase under a BOT (Build–Operate–Transfer) model, Iran will become the largest gas storage country in the Middle East and one of the top five countries worldwide in terms of underground gas storage capacity.

Geographical Location

The Shourijeh D Reservoir is located in northeastern Iran, Khorasan Razavi Province, approximately 5 km from Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery and 160 km along the Mashhad–Sarakhs road.

Technical Specifications

The project is being executed collaboratively among several MAPNA Group subsidiaries:

  • MAPNA Noor Kish Drilling Company – Drilling and subsurface operations
  • MAPNA Neyrperse Company – Surface facilities
  • MAPNA TUGA – Manufacturing of turbo-compressors
  • MAPNA International Company – Implementation phase

The project involves drilling 28 wells and constructing the related facilities for gas injection and underground storage.

It has been carried out with precise logistical planning and the deployment of maximum operational personnel within a tight schedule, ensuring full compliance with all safety requirements.

Current Project Status

The first well has been successfully drilled, and infrastructure, logistics, and personnel deployment have been efficiently and systematically completed. The project is currently progressing toward the completion of 28 wells and other associated facilities.
