Two MAPNA-Developed Turbocompressor Units Go On Stream in South Iran

The 72-hour trial run of the first and second turbocompressor packages at the Shahid Akhlaghi (Abpakhsh) Gas Pressure Boosting Facility was successfully completed on September 25, 2024, making the station ready for operation.

Sam Sarani Asl, the project manager for gas pressure boosting facilities at the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC), stated, “The Abpakhsh station, located on the sixth national gas pipeline [aka Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT)] with a designed daily capacity of 107 million cubic meters, was constructed with four MGT-30 turbines manufactured by MAPNA Group, each with a power of 25 megawatts, totaling 100MW. The 72-hour trial run of its two turbo compressor units was successfully completed.”

He added that the station is one of the first facilities on the route of the sixth pipeline. “Therefore, due to high operational pressures and the specific conditions of the station and pipeline, we faced challenges in its commissioning. However, with the prudence of the MAPNA Group project management team, the contractor, and the consultant, along with the cooperation of the regional operator, we overcame these challenges.”

The commissioning of four turbo compressor units at the Dowrahan facilities, along with the recent two units at the Abpakhsh facilities, under the leadership of MAPNA Group’s oil and gas subsidiary, Neyr Perse, and in collaboration with MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA), and MAPNA Electrical and Control Engineering and Manufacturing Company (MECO) marks a record for MAPNA Group for commissioning six units within six months.

The commissioning and temporary delivery of these turbocompressors, considering the special conditions of the station in terms of gas pressure and flow rate, and the large volume of water entering the gas line, is considered one of the most challenging commissioning operations at pressure boosting stations.

The Abpakhsh gas pressure boosting facilities, located in Bushehr province in the south of the country, play a significant role in strengthening the national gas network.

These facilities ensure the flexibility of the gas transmission network for sending gas produced from Assaluyeh refineries to the Khuzestan and western regions of the country.

Efforts are being made to fully operationalize all constructed facilities with their final capacity before the onset of the cold season in the country, ensuring this project significantly contributes to the stability of the gas transmission network.

The station is part of the project commissioned by the IGEDC to manufacture, supply, and install 100 turbocompressor utilities.

The project involves the design, supply, manufacture, handover, and supervision of installation and commissioning of 100 turbocompressors. The project has been implemented in three phases, with the degree of localization increasing in each phase.

The turbocompressors are installed in various locations along the IGAT lines, and their installation is done by the client, Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company.

Energy Industries Engineering & Design (EIED) is the consultant for the project. Neyr Perse executes the project on behalf of the parent company. The contract between MAPNA Group and the Ministry of Petroleum for this project was signed in 2007.
