Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant’s Second Steam Unit Achieves Final Acceptance

MAPNA Group announced the Final Acceptance (FAC) of the second steam unit of Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant on November 19, 2024, following the resolution of temporary delivery defects and the conclusion of the guarantee period.

This project, located 25 kilometers along the Mashhad-Quchan highway in northeastern Iran, was initiated to meet national electricity demands and optimize fuel consumption.

Developed under a buyback agreement between the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company and MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company, it includes the installation of three steam units, each with a capacity of 160 MW, totaling 480 MW.

The plant’s combined cycle system features six heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), an air-cooled condenser (ACC) system, and a 400-kilovolt substation. This integration of steam units into gas turbines boosts efficiency, reduces fuel use, and supports sustainable energy goals.

Under the project’s energy conversion agreement (ECA), the Ministry of Energy is obligated to compensate the investor with the amount of liquid fuel saved—or its equivalent monetary value—within two years, up to the investment value.

The project was executed by MAPNA Power Plant Construction and Development Company (MD-1) under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) scheme, with MAPNA Group supplying core equipment.

The first steam unit of the Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant was synchronized in September 2020, and the second unit reached its commercial operation date (COD) on March 3, 2024. MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company, both the employer and investor, oversees the plant’s operations.
