MAPNA Group Completes 100,000-Hour LTE Maintenance at Ferdowsi Power Plant

MAPNA Group has successfully finished the second 100,000-hour Life Time Extension (LTE) maintenance on the second gas unit of the Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant.

The critical operation was completed right on schedule, securing reliable power generation for the region ahead of the summer peak.

Located in the northeastern city of Mashhad, the Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant is a major energy hub. It is owned and managed by MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) investment scheme.

Majid Mohammad-Kazemi, CEO of MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company, announced the successful overhaul. He noted the company’s recent achievements, stating: “Previously, in Azar [November-December of 2025], LTE maintenance was performed on the fifth gas unit of this power plant.”

Mohammad-Kazemi explained that LTE overhauls are vital for the facility. He noted these operations help increase production readiness, upgrade efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and prevent emergency outages.

The primary goal of this 100,000-hour maintenance is to give the gas turbine a completely new life cycle. Mohammad-Kazemi added that the process provides a reliability level close to that of a brand-new turbine, significantly reduces operational risks, and recovers lost efficiency.

This highly complex operation was executed by MAPNA Power Plants Operation and Maintenance Company (O&M). This subsidiary is recognized for providing comprehensive technical support and long-term service agreements to power plants both regionally and globally.

The project relied heavily on the advanced manufacturing capabilities of MAPNA Group’s factories. It also required the round-the-clock efforts of the Ferdowsi Power Plant’s operation and maintenance staff. All procedures strictly followed safety requirements and manufacturer guidelines.

Technical teams carried out an extensive list of precision tasks during the overhaul. They replaced fixed and moving turbine blades, bearings, and critical hot gas path components. The latter included the inner casing, mixing chamber, and flame tube.

Additionally, the crews conducted remaining life assessments on all main equipment. They also serviced auxiliary systems and performed essential electrical testing on the generator and transformers.

Following the completion of repairs and successful technical tests, the second gas unit was safely and normally synchronized with the national grid. The unit resumed operations at 17:55 on March 17, 2026 (Esfand 26, 1404 in the Iranian calendar).

With this unit back online, the Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant is now prepared to play a highly effective role in maintaining grid stability during the peak summer demand of 2026 (1405).
