MAPNA Receives FAC for the Last Gas Unit of Rumaila Power Plant

MAPNA Group has successfully obtained the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) for the 12th and final gas unit of the Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant in Iraq.

The FAC for Gas Unit 12 was issued on March 29, 2026. It includes an 18-month warranty as stipulated in the contract. The client officially notified MAPNA of this milestone on April 26, 2026.

The technology used to construct this power plant has been entirely localized inside Iran. Furthermore, the supply of the project’s main equipment also relies on domestic capabilities.

The project utilized the maximum capacity of MAPNA Group subsidiary companies. This includes the design, equipment supply, installation, and commissioning phases.

Shamara Holding Group is the client for the Rumaila project. The power plant was executed in four phases under ISO conditions.

Phase 1 includes six MAP2B gas units and common facilities.

Phase 2 consists of three E-type steam units. These are equipped with Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) and Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) systems.

Phase 3 features another six MAP2B gas units and common facilities.

Phase 4 includes three E-type steam units, alongside HRSG and ACC cooling systems.

The Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant is a megaproject. It is located 45 kilometers from the city of Basra in the North Rumaila region of Iraq. It sits 100 kilometers from the Shalamcheh border station with Iran.

The power plant comprises six 526-MW blocks across its four phases. This brings the total nominal capacity to an impressive 3,156 MW under ISO conditions.

With the permanent delivery of this unit, MAPNA Thermal Power Plants Development Company (MD-2) achieved a new record. The total number of power plant units permanently delivered by MD-2 has now reached 133 units. These units have a combined capacity of 20,854 MW.

The Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant is recognized as the largest power plant project executed by an Iranian contractor abroad. The project plays a critical role in addressing severe power shortages in Iraq and improving the region’s energy infrastructure, and also showcases the capacity of MAPNA Group in conducting major projects outside Iran.
