MAPNA President Voted as Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade

Abbas Aliabadi, MAPNA Group President and the proposed Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade in the Islamic Republic of Iran, has won the vote of confidence from the Iranian parliament members.

The decision was made during a public session of the parliament on Tuesday, June 23, following discussions about his qualifications and plans.

Present at the meeting were Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the Minister of Energy, and Solat Mortazavi, the Minister of Cooperation, Labor and Social Welfare.

During his defense, Aliabadi presented eight strategic plans for his proposed ministry, including using small funds and the capital market to finance projects, supporting joint production with international brands, developing business infrastructure through economic trade diplomacy, reforming the governance of the industry and mining sector with a focus on reducing government ownership, and diversifying the export portfolio.

He also emphasized the importance of attracting foreign investment, supporting domestic brands, and supplying electricity and water to industries with clean energy.

Aliabadi’s plans were approved with 187 votes in favor, 58 votes against, 8 abstentions, and 2 invalid votes out of the total of 255 representatives present.

Abbas Aliabadi served as president of MAPNA Group for 14 years during which the corporation expanded its traditional business of power. He also boosted MAPNA Group’s foothold in oil & gas and rail transportation and also added electrification, water, and healthcare to the company’s portfolio.
