Rey Power Plant: MAPNA Commissions 1st Fully Iranian Medium-Scale Unit

MAPNA Group launched the first “fully Iranian” unit of the Rey medium-scale power plant, with a capacity of 42 megawatts on June 23, 2025.

The first unit of the Rey medium-scale power plant, with a generation capacity of 42 megawatts, was inaugurated during a ceremony attended by Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi, along with senior officials from the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) and MAPNA Group.

The unit has now been synchronized with the national power grid.

Following the commissioning of the first unit, a ceremony was held to mark the beginning of construction for the plant’s second 42-megawatt unit, which is scheduled to become operational around mid-August this year.

MAPNA Group has played a central role in this project by advancing energy infrastructure, enhancing power generation efficiency, and localizing key power plant equipment.

The Rey MGT-40 power plant is the first fully Iranian medium-scale power plant, designed and built with the goal of strengthening distributed generation, improving grid reliability, and leveraging the domestic technical and engineering expertise of MAPNA.

This achievement is not only a milestone in Iran’s power industry but also a model for executing strategic energy projects within compressed timelines using national capabilities.

MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-1) is currently managing 11 MGT-40 project sites across the country, including three units in Zahedan, and two in Rey.

Of these, three units in Zahedan and one in Rey have already been commissioned and are operational.

With the launch of the first unit in Rey, and based on an average household consumption pattern of 300 kilowatts, the plant’s output can serve the electricity needs of more than 90,000 households.
