MAPNA Drilling Company, a subsidiary of MAPNA Group, deployed its onshore rig Noor-2 at the Sepehr–Jofeir oil field. The ceremony marked the start of drilling operations to complete eight wells in the Fahliyan reservoir.
The field is in Iran’s Khuzestan province—about 60 km west of Ahvaz and 30 km south of Susangerd—covering roughly 352 km². Notably, Sepehr–Jofeir is the first oil field in Iran both developed by the private sector and managed entirely by Iranian companies.
Industry Voices underscore significance of Noor-2
At the inauguration, the CEO of Pasargad Exploration and Production Company described the Noor-2 deployment as the gateway to broader development in Sepehr–Jofeir. He praised MAPNA’s strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices.
He highlighted MAPNA’s long-standing role in implementing national oil industry projects, applauding its expertise and contributions. He also expressed optimism that coordinated efforts with Pasargad and the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Development Company (NIOPDC) would accelerate progress.
Also addressing the event, Kamran Zarrabi, CEO of MAPNA Drilling, said that entering Sepehr–Jofeir demonstrates a strong commitment to technical growth and specialization.
He noted that integrated efforts across operational, drilling, project management, and support teams are key to this project’s success.
Boosting Capacity
Abbas Gudarzi Arjmand, the project manager for Sepehr–Jofeir development, emphasized the rig’s role in fulfilling production goals. Four rigs are now active in the field.
He noted that to reach the target of 110,000 barrels per day by the end of the second development phase, at least six active drilling rigs are needed annually.
The first task for the Noor-2 rig is to drill into the Fahliyan reservoir to a depth of about 4,500 meters. The well is projected to yield over 4,000 barrels of oil per day, according to report by Shana.
Both Noor-1 and Noor-2 are powerful onshore drilling rigs. They have a 2,000-horsepower drilling capability and can reach maximum depths of 7,000 meters. MAPNA Drilling Company provides comprehensive onshore and offshore drilling services, including engineering, procurement, supervisory, and a wide range of well services.
