The final steam unit of Ferdowsi CCPP entered commercial operation with the approval of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, following the successful completion of its reliability test.
The contract for the construction of the power plant’s three steam units, along with the expansion of the 400-kV substation, was concluded as part of the commitments under a buyback agreement between Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) and MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company. Under the agreement, investment recovery is based on payments equivalent to the value of fuel savings achieved by the steam units over a period of two years.
The full commissioning of the steam units of Ferdowsi CCPP enhances the electricity generation capacity in northeastern Iran while improving the plant’s efficiency from 32% to 50%. The plant’s three steam units also save 750 million liters of diesel fuel annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The steam section of the Ferdowsi CCPP comprises three 160-MW steam turbine units with a total capacity of 480 MW, six heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), an air-cooled condenser (ACC) system, and a 400-kV substation.
The project was executed by MAPNA Power Plant Construction and Development Company (MD-1), with MAPNA Group supplying core equipment. MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company, a subsidiary of MAPNA Iranian Power Plant Management Holding, is the investor and owner of the Ferdowsi Combined Cycle Power Plant.
Ferdowsi CCPP is located approximately 25 km along the Quchan Road near Mashhad and is managed by MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company, a subsidiary of MAPNA Group.
