Boiler & Burner Control & Protection Systems
The automatic control system for the boiler in the combined cycle power plant has the following control loops for steam boiler protection. Boiler start-up: The local panel handles the basic operations such as turning on or off the boiler, and operating and managing pumps, fans, valves, etc.
The central control room adjusts and controls the parameters such as combustion control (fuel and airflow), feed water flow (drum water level control), and steam temperature control from the terminal points.
The regulation and control system is designed to perform the control action automatically in normal operation, but during the initial start-up and low steam production (minimum amount), the operator performs the control action manually.
Combustion control
Combustion control is designed to regulate the amount of fuel and airflow to keep the steam pressure steady within the standard range. This includes fuel and airflow control – except for oxygen – from the main boiler controller.
Feed-water Control
The drum water level is controlled by the feed water flow regulator.
Three main factors contribute to drum water control.
- Steam temperature control
- Outgoing superheat steam temperature control in boiler: This controller keeps the steam temperature at the desired level by adjusting the spray water flow, which is installed and injected between the primary and secondary superheater pipes.
- Miscellaneous controls
– Controlling steam pressure which atomizes mazut
– Controlling naphtha steam pressure
– Controlling the temperature of the air blowing out of the heater
– Controlling the water level in the drain tank
– Adjusting the blowing turbine speed
