MAPNA Commissions LTE Project of Gas Unit at Indonesia’s Belwan Power Plant

Experts of MAPNA Group’ Alborz Turbine Power Plant Engineering and Support Company have successfully commissioned a lifetime extension (LTE) project of a gas unit at Belawan power plant in Indonesia.

The project included lifetime extension of V94.2 gas turbine of the plant’s GT11 unit. The project was commissioned to the client on October 4, 2022, as the unit was successfully synchronized to the national grid.

All the needed equipment were made by MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA) and had been earlier transferred to the site of the power plant in Medan, North Sumatra Province.

The project was commissioned despite the fact that the turbine had an old version and there were technical complexities in installing new parts.

Although the hardware and software control systems of the turbine had been updated along with its SFC to Yokogawa and AEG models, MAPNA experts managed to detect and solve all the inconsistencies, delivering the project according to the committed capacity.

MAPNA Group has been tasked with these projects while competing with Siemens and Ansaldo Energia.

The conglomerate had already carried out the overhaul and LTE project for two other gas units of the power plant back in 2013. The project included Life Time Extension (LTE) of 2.1 and 2.2 V94.2 gas turbines of Belawan power plant, upgrading the gas turbines, and also increasing the power output up to around 10 Megawatt. These 2 units were totally commissioned to Indonesia’s State Electricity Company (PLN) while producing with more capacity than contractual scope.

The group signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia’s State Electricity Company (PLN) in Tehran in December 2016 as part of its efforts to play a larger role in Southeast Asian power market.

Belawan Combined Cycle Power Plant is an 817.88-MW gas-fired power project. It is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. The power plant runs on dual fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is natural gas. In case of a shortage of natural gas, the plant can also run on High-Speed Diesel.
