MAPNA Group and Iranian National Oil Company (NIOC) have signed a contract to build and operate centrifugal electrically-driven compressors to boost associated petroleum gas (APG) capture from the southwestern oilfields.
The agreement was signed on Monday, April 05, 2021, by the managing director of MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TUGA), Majid Bahmani, and the managing director of Bid Boland Gas Refining Company, Mahmoud Amin-Nejad.
The ceremony was also attended by Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.
As per the deal, TUGA will manufacture eight compressors to collect APG from Bibi Hakimeh-2 oil field in southwestern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, and transfer APG and sour gas to Bid Boland Gas Refining Company in Khuzestan Province.
The compressors will provide pressure for transporting gas via pipelines.
The construction of sour gas-customized electrically-driven centrifugal compressors will be carried out by MAPNA Group and its subsidiaries for the first time in the country.
The electromotors will be built by MAPNA Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Co. (Pars); MAPNA Electric and Control Engineering and Manufacturing Company (MECO) will be responsible for the control and variable-frequency drive (VFD) in the systems; and TUGA will manufacture compressors and manage the whole project.
APG, or flare gas, is gas dissolved in oil. It is a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from oil extraction and separation processes. The gas can be utilized in a number of ways after processing: as feedstock for the petrochemical industry and for gas distribution networks.
Collection of APG is an important safety measure at many oil and gas production sites as it prevents industrial plant equipment from over-pressure and explosion.
Iran has made verifiable progress in using flare gas for power generation and feeding refineries in the recent years.
MAPNA’s Great Role Backed by Specialized, Committed Work Force
Addressing the deal-signing ceremony, the petroleum minister hailed the remarkable efforts by domestic companies in the development of Iran’s major projects in the energy and oil and gas industries.
Zanganeh referred to MAPNA Group as a salient player in meeting the needs of the oil and gas sector, saying such a strong role is surely achieved by the support of specialized and committed work force.
MAPNA is involved in a range of projects including oil and gas field development, onshore and offshore drilling services, construction of downstream processing units, auxiliary facilities, utility, storage tanks, as well as design and manufacturing of equipment such as turbo-compressors for transmission pipelines, refineries and processing units.
The petroleum minister called on the domestic manufacturers to give a hand to the Petroleum Ministry in indigenizing the oil and gas industry’s equipment and meet the demands of the key sector.
Zanganeh underlined the establishment of an Oil Technology Park and the Oil Technology Fund as the key solution for supporting domestic production and said that such measures will give an incentive to the manufacturers and guarantee the purchase of their products by the ministry.
