The second gas unit of Hengam Combined Cycle Power Plant in Bandar Abbas has successfully been synchronized with the national grid, by MAPNA Group technicians.
The gas-fired unit, equipped with MAPNA’s F-Class turbines with a capacity of 307 MWs, was put into operation on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
The power plant comprises two gas-fired units equipped with MAPNA’s F-Class turbines, a 292-MW steam unit, and a one-through cooling system.
Once fully operational, the power station will have a generation capacity of 906 MW with a 58% efficiency.
Hengam Combined Cycle Power Plant is under construction by a consortium comprising MAPNA Group, MAPNA International Company, and MAPNA Special Projects Construction & Development Company (MD-3) as the main contractor.
The eco-friendly project comes in line with an agreement between the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, a subsidiary of Power Ministry, and MAPNA Group to improve efficiency and reduce electricity waste.
The agreement stipulates the construction of 5,000 MW of thermal power plants by 2024, using F-class gas turbines made inside the country.
Hengam Power Plant is the first among eight projects to have become operational.
The first gas unit of the plant was put into operation in mid-July.
The F-Class turbines will give each unit an efficiency rate of 40%, and as soon as the steam unit comes on stream, the power plant’s efficiency will reach 60%.
Other key features of the F-class turbine include lower fuel consumption and higher compliance to environmental standards.
