The VP was accompanied by Reza Rahmani, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, and Mohammad Eslami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, in his morning tour of the industrial facility located 10 kilometers west of Tehran.
Jahangiri lauded MAPNA achievements and the remarkable progress made by the group during the recent years, calling it a sign of progress in Iran’s secondary sector despite obstacles. “MAPNA Group is an asset for Iran’s industry,” he added.
Vice President called on MAPNA Group to commercialize its new project of electrifying vehicles, and to step up construction of desalination plants to provide water-scarce central and eastern region of Iran with drinkable water.
In the beginning of the visit, MAPNA President Abbas Aliabadi introduced MAPNA Group’s products in various industrial sectors, including homegrown gas turbines, various types of locomotives, oil & gas rotating and fixed equipment, and wind turbines. Aliabadi also pointed to MAPNA Group’s new ventures, including development of telecommunication infrastructure, manufacture of medical equipment, electrification of vehicles, and energy storage.
MAPNA president also reminded of the group’s international footprint, including projects across the Middle East and North Africa region, and called for streamlining of finance and insurance procedures to boost the industrial sector.
Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, was another key speaker of the event. Reza Rahmani pointed to seven active wagon and locomotive manufacturing companies as evidence of the high status of rail transportation in Iran’s economy. He called MAPNA Group ‘a company of global class’ that enjoys a knowledge-based mindset. Minister of Industry supported increasing share of local companies in manufacture of basic commodities, in line with the government’s ‘make in Iran’ campaign.
Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami also praised MAPNA for its efforts to localize and develop energy and transportation industries. Eslami added that his ministry championed maximum exploitation of local products, including locomotives and wagons.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between MAPNA Group President Abbas Aliabadi and Deputy Vice President at Budget and Planning Organization Hamid Pourmohammadi on the sidelines of the visit.
Based on the MoU, Budget and Planning Organization would exploit MAPNA Group’s capacities in fostering production and economic growth, executing industrial projects, and procuring industrial components and equipment.
The MoU emphasizes MAPNA Group’s key role in operation of megaprojects in the industrial sector including power, water and wastewater, oil, gas and petrochemical, and transportation projects, as well as electrification of vehicles and rail lines, electric vehicle charging station, and energy storage.
