MAPNA Group Unveils MAPsave360° Project to Boost Energy Efficiency

At the 4th International Conference on Energy Efficiency, MAPNA Group President Mohammad Owliya introduced the “MAPsave360°” project, highlighting a significant reduction in energy consumption across the conglomerate’s facilities achieved over the past 18 months.

The 4th International Conference and Exhibition on Energy Efficiency and Productivity in Iran took place on December 8, 2025. The event was held at the Milad Tower Conference Hall, Tehran.

Mohammad Owliya spoke at the conference. He discussed the reduction of water and energy consumption within the industrial conglomerate.

He pointed to power plants built by MAPNA in the 1990s using Siemens equipment.

“These power plants had an efficiency of about 48 percent,” Owliya said. “However, by upgrading technical knowledge and accessing the latest domestic technologies over the years—such as the MAPNA Class F turbine recently transported to the Rey Power Plant—we have managed to reach an efficiency of about 59 percent.”

He continued by highlighting MAPNA’s role as a key player in strategic industries. He noted that the Group comprises about 80 companies and numerous buildings.

Owliya explained that the country is currently grappling with energy imbalances. Consequently, MAPNA concluded that action was necessary.

He noted that energy efficiency measures make economic sense even with current energy pricing. Therefore, the MAPsave360° project was launched at MAPNA two years ago.

Energy Efficiency as a Resource

Referencing global statistics, the MAPNA Group President noted that a high percentage of energy supply is linked to conservation and preventing waste. He described energy efficiency as a vital resource in the energy transition process.

He stated that MAPNA Group’s share of energy consumption is approximately one percent of the country’s total energy.

“This figure is significant for us as a major industry,” he said. “Any amount we could reduce from this figure would have an impact on the entire country.”

Describing the MAPNA energy efficiency project, Owliya noted that the plan was set to reduce the Group’s total energy consumption by 40 percent over three years. Initial studies were completed by March 2024. Executive processes began a few months later. Significant results have already been achieved.

The CEO clarified the implementation strategy.

“At the start of the work, projects requiring no significant investment were prioritized,” Owliya explained. “While there are many solutions, time and investment are two very important factors in their execution. In the preliminary stage, auditing the current status and online monitoring of companies and industrial facilities began.”

He then presented executive measures taken in two sectors: administrative buildings and MAPNA factories.

These measures included training on guidelines, insulation, separating ventilation spaces, automation and smart systems, launching water recycling systems, and renovating and upgrading water transfer equipment and facilities.

Owliya discussed the optimization of production processes and equipment.

He explained that early investigations yielded a key insight regarding factory equipment. By simply placing equipment in an “ideal” mode—rather than fully off—during short staff breaks, the energy consumption of that equipment drops by about 70 percent.

Owliya detailed the specific savings achieved in just 18 months.

In administrative buildings, MAPNA achieved savings of 19% in water, 49.5% in gas, and 18.4% in electricity.

In factories, the Group experienced reductions of 18.7% in water, 8.1% in gas, and 16.2% in electricity.

The president outlined the total reduction across the entire Group over the past 18 months since the project began. He reported total savings of 37% in water, 16.4% in gas, and 38.4% in electricity.

He noted that this indicates the approximate realization of the three-year goals for electricity and water in nearly half the intended time. It demonstrates the significant capacity for saving and optimization within this project until its completion.

Owliya identified “waste” as the largest source of energy in countries and expressed hope for serious investment in this field.

In another part of his presentation, the official addressed energy savings in the aluminum industry which is known as an energy-intensive sector.

Comparing figures to the year 1402, he said: “So far, at Al-Mahdi Aluminum, we have reached a significant reduction of 39.9 percent in water and gas conservation.”

Other Conference Highlights

During the conference, other officials also spoke. These included the Head of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Organization, the Mayor of Tehran, and a member of the Parliament’s Energy Commission. They discussed the roots of energy imbalance, economic challenges in this sector, and potential solutions.

MAPNA Group participated extensively in the conference. In addition to the President’s presentation, senior managers attended, and workshops were held to showcase the achievements of MAPsave360° and other Group projects.
