MAPNA – With successful implementation of Najaf and Baghdad Al-Sadr Gas Power Plants, now MAPNA has concluded the contract of construction of Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant.
The contract partners are MAPNA Group and Jordanian-Iraqi Shamara Holding Co. in construction of 3000MW combined cycle power plant in Rumaila, which has been approved by Iraqi government recently. The power plant will be constructed in a Basra suburb. Iraqi government has guaranteed the contract by issuing a sovereign guarantee letter. This sovereign guarantee is unique in its kind and has been issued for the first time in the history of the country for this type of such megaproject.
MAPNA Group is responsible for engineering, procurement, and installation of the equipment. The total value of the Rumaila international project will exceed to $2.5bln. The construction of the Rumaila Combined Cycle power plant will be implemented in 4 phases. This great thermal power plant will be equipped with 12 gas and 6 steam turbines. All manufacturing process of 180MW gas turbines of MAP2B and 160 steam turbines of type E-TYPE, hot section blades of gas turbines, power generators, electrical and control system and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) will be done by MAPNA Turbine Engineering and Manufacturing (TUGA), MAPNA Blade Engineering and Manufacturing Co. (Parto), MAPNA Generator Engineering and Manufacturing Co. (PARS), MAPNA Electrical and Control Engineering and Manufacturing Co. (MECO), and MAPNA Equipment and Boiler Engineering and Manufacturing Co., respectively, with MAPNA Group as project manager. The civil construction operation has been assigned to the client of the project.
Among the unique features of the project is its potential to export of technical and engineering services which is unparalleled in Iran’s national scale in project management; this project is the single greatest such contract, well comparable to the world’s cutting edge technology standards and practices.
With the scope of the operation required to manufacture and installation of the power plant facilities, the 3000MW Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant will greatly improve prospects of job creation in both Iran and Iraq. Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has embarked on a series of projects with the objective of doubling the current 16000MW installed capacity to 20,000MW by 2016 with concrete impact on the country’s economy and current high demand of energy. Rumaila will have considerable effect on handling electricity demand in Iraq.
On Monday morning July 27, 2015, a press conference was held with attendance of MAPNA and Shamara Companies higher officials to introduce this contract to media representatives in Tehran.
