Second Steam Unit of Ferdowsi Power Plant Starts Commercial Operations

The second steam unit of Tous (Ferdowsi) Combined Cycle Power Plant has achieved a commercial operation date (COD) on March 3, 2024.

The power plant has been built based on an energy conversion agreement (ECA) and in the form of build, own and operate (BOO) between MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company (on behalf of MAPNA) and Thermal Power Plants Holding Company.

According to the contract, the Ministry of Energy is required to give back the amount of liquid fuel (or the equivalent value in cash) that is saved by turning the plant into a combined cycle one to the investor. The Ministry of Energy has up to two years to do this and up to the limit of the investment.

The scope of the combined cycle project includes the installation of three E-type steam turbines and generators with a nominal capacity of 160 MW, six HRSGs, three ACC cooling system units, BOP (balance of plant), and a 400-kV substation.

The first steam unit was synchronized in September 2020. The power plant is located at the 25th kilometer of Mashhad-Quchan road in the northeastern Khorasan Province. It is operated by MAPNA Tous Power Generation Company. MAPNA Power Plant Construction and Development Company (MD-1) executed the project under an EPC scheme.
